POP BUT WITH MORE INSTRUMENTS
Vessel - Twenty One PilotsVessel is the third album by Twenty One Pilots. Released by record company Fueled By Ramen, it's a beautiful mix of genres, with powerful lyrics backed by Tyler Joseph. Most of the songs are actually found on a record made before this one, called Regional At Best. That album was canned when they got signed on Fueled By Ramen, where they remastered the tracks and made some new ones. This is the easiest album by Twenty One Pilots to get into. Favorite Track: Car Radio

Demon Days - GorillazDemon Days is the second album by Gorillaz. Released under Parlophone Records, it's a mix of Hip Hop, Rock, and Pop. The album is a timepiece for post 9/11 and the troubles of pollution, war, and distrust of a community. Every track is quality and well thought through. Favorite Track: El Manana

Self Titled - Twenty One PilotsTwenty One Pilots' self titled album was the first album they ever produced. It was released independently and was a mix of electronic, experimental, and piano music. It's about death, religion, love, and struggles Tyler Joseph was going through. I think it's better than Vessel but less accessible. Favorite Track: Air Catcher

Spreading Rumours - GrouploveThis album is really hippie. Really really hippie. Grouplove is what happens when you give Cage the Elephant one too many weeds. Most songs are about drugs but those songs are also really darn good. I'm pretty sure Raspberry is about a guy who falls asleep and gets a sunburn. Hippie hill blows my mind every time i hear it. Hecking good album man. Recorded under Atlantic Records. Favorite Track: Raspberry

Lemon Boy - CavetownCavetown is a super small indie pop group and it's a darn shame most people don't know about them. Released independently, Lemon Boy covers anxieties, problems, and insecurities Cavetown's lead went through. (I want to say his name is Robert Skinner, but I may be wrong.) Favorite Track: Lemon Boy
|
Currents - Tame ImpalaReleased under Modular Recordings, this album talks about heartbreak in a trippy fashion, with falsettos, dynamic baselines. It is a very funky album. Favorite Track: The Less I Know the Better
|
Carrie & Lowell - Sufjan StevensThis album is super relaxing. Released under Asthmatic Kitty Records It crosses genres with downbeat indie folk. It has acoustic based instruments being gently finger picked as well as and breathy vocals talking about loneliness and other such places. Favorite Track: Death With Dignity
|
Bad Blood - BastilleThis album is the poppiest on this list. Bad Blood is about leaving relationships happily and avoiding bad blood caused by the breakup. Released under Virgin Records. Favorite Track: Bad Blood

Self Titled - Vampire WeekendThese guys were really popular in the indie scene a good while ago, and they just made their first comeback in 4 years just this week. It's a good time to get into the band, new music presumably coming soon. Released under XL Recordings (June 23, 2018)
