I could spend a year naming off rock subgenres. All of them are included.

LATE BLOOMER - JORDAN THORNQUESTThis man has changed my life. This album has changed my life. I listen to this all the time, I'm practically obsessed with this guy. This album is about heartbreak, but not like every song ever talks about it, but in a realistic way. Being conscious that you should move on, but you just can't. You don't just feel bad, get help, and it's over with. You need pity for a bit. It's not just about getting help all the time. Sometimes you need to dwell in your thoughts. Sometimes you ask someone to listen not for advice, but for personal venting. But doing nothing gets you nowhere. That's why you have a dog there for you. A friend to wake you up and get you moving. It's also about telling yourself you'll be better vs actually becoming a better person. It's also about the power of music and leadership.
Favorite Track: Man, Seeking Pity. The dog's name is Jess. |
Pinkerton - WeezerThe first album I ever really got into. This album tanked when it was first released, but has grown into a cult classic. Goofy lyrics mixed with heart crushing topics, this album delves into River Cuomo's darkest thoughts. Go for the deluxe if you can, it's totally worth it. Released under Geffen Records. Favorite Track: The Good Life

Precious Art - Rozwell KidIf every garbage adam sandler movie you ever watched was mashed together and put into a single album. Songs about spilling drinks on futons, finding a place to park, and more. Absurdest comedy. Released under Side One Dummy Records. Favorite Track: UHF on DVD

Pretty. Odd. - Panic! At The DiscoA blend of The Beatles, Psychedelic Rock, Classic Rock, and the unique Panic! At The Disco style. My favorite Panic! album by far. Brass instruments, acoustic, electric, flutes, all the instruments to provide an Alice in Wonderland feeling. This is much closer to alternative then rock, but I've already written all of this. Phenomenal album. I'd undoubtedly consider this a 10/10. Released under Atlantic Recordings Favorite Track: Behind The Sea

Crutch - King and Queen of the LosersThese guys are wonderful. They have a youtube channel where they do skits, podcasts, and such. They're very active in their community too. I reached out to KAQOTL themselves to ask them how they'd describe their album. "Songs about drug addiction, love, and life in the modern world." Released under Atlantic Records. Favorite Track: World War Me

ROCK and Roll, Pt 3 - OZMAIf you took Weezer but made it geekier and give it stranger lyrics, you come up with this album. This album is built on reminiscing over past times. Released under Kung Fu Records. Favorite Track: Baseball
|
Talon of the Hawk - The Front BottomsI have very strong bones. Released under Bar None Records. Favorite Track: Skeleton
|
Self Titled - Cardboard SwordsIs this loss? Favorite Track: Flannel

American Idiot - Green DayAn album about growing up in modern day America, love, loss, and finding your place in this world. A lot of the songs are really long but time just goes by. Released under Reprise. Favorite Track: Jesus of Suburbia |
Absolution - MuseSongs of the Apocalypse. This album is very cinematic, but also very well done as a rock album. It's about the end times, dying, and other such places. Dark piano, emphasis on the bass, and dark piano chords give a feeling of urgency like no other. Released under A&E Records. Favorite Track: Intro/ Apocalypse Please

Melophobia - Cage The Elephant"Melophobia is by definition fear of music. ... On this record, for us, it wasn't necessarily an actual fear of music, but a fear of making music to project premeditated images of self rather than being an honest communicator." - Cage The Elephant. Brain melters. Cage The Elephant is one of the most mainstream psych rock bands I can think of, and Melophobia is the creme of the crop. Best critically rated CTE album. Active rythm guitars, basslines, and good punchy drums to carry each track though whatever mood it tries to convey. Released under RCA Records. Favorite Track: Spiderhead
|
Americana - The OffspringBefore this album existed, The Offspring made Smash. Smash was lightning in a bottle. Highly praised, and considered one of the greatest punk rock albums ever. Many people were skeptical, because no ordinary band can strike gold more than once. The Offspring did it. They sure as hell did it. Every single track is punk rock gold. Released under Universal Music. Favorite Track: The Kids Aren't Alright

Favorite Worst Nightmare - Arctic MonkeysBrit Rock at it's finest. Active basslines, rythm, leads, quick vocals by Alex Turner, and constantly beating drums. This album doesn't slow down. Released under Domino Recording Company. Favorite Track: Fluorescent Adolescent
